Crank shaft Noshed

Hello everyone,

I have just bought a Phantom 20 which has a Mercury Xr2 V6 2 stroke outboard, anyhow to cut a long story short, as you can see in the photo the crankshaft is totally noshed and so is the end of the gearbox shaft. Can anyone advise where would be best to get a new crank shaft or if there is some kind of repair or if it is worth doing?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Although the picture is pretty poor I don't think you have a major problem You can clean the spline with the correct size wire brushes in a drill and replace the crankshaft seal 65800

Bad shot and I can't see up in the shaft hollow but see if you could find a drive shaft end after cleaning then test the the splines for health..

Oiler cranks are dirt cheap here ( $ 300 ish USD ) and if that spline is questionable I'd can it.Or it can take out your drive shaft.. ( More money )

I asked Dave at Marine Crankshaft ( the BEST Merc crankshaft guy in the states ) a couple of months ago the end of spline question to settle a discussion on Scream and Fly and he concurred , JUNK IT !
