I'm going through the same repair.
I will use csm to bed it down. Was considering bedding compounds too but they are expensive!

I believe on the website of Baltek there is a manual how to do it.

Getting stuff to adhere to cured epoxy based vinylester is not easy. Best to use an epoxy based product.
Before anyone quotes resin sellers tech spec at me I know they all say it is no problem. But at the end of the day I have seen too many polyester repairs fall out of vinylester layups.

Kitten much appreciated, after talks with a few others, im gonna go epoxy. I have some stringer hollows where the foam sat into spray rails, I intend to fill this with epoxy mixed with high density filler 404, then over laminate. 45/45 cloth.

What filler should I use to bed balsa down, does it need to be soft or hard. Balsa is hard under compression so should I match it with more high density filler, or something easier to sand anfd fair?

Epoxy thickened with cabosil (silica)
