Building a motor for a friend (Mercury Dealer) this motor had a questionable piston and a crank failure, we ordered new ones from Mercury..

Well the STARBOARD piston that he ordered came in PORT and the NEW crankshaft after my close examination at bearing loading time had a bad place in the surface in the #5 rod journal...

Moral : Just because you've bought a NEW piece don't "ASSUME" its a "shoe in" to be cleaned, stuck and ran in your zillion $$ motor.

These parts are high $$ and when buying a new part one would assume they are perfect and IMO they "should be" and safe to run out of the box not a dice roll with a use of a NEW defective part...

My suggestion : CAREFULLY EXAMINE and MEASURE EVERYTHING BEFORE ASSEMBLY NEW or USED !!
