Higher compresion is allways the best place to start. You should have about 125PSI with 37cc head as standard. 33cc heads will give you about 145PSI. This is as far as you can safely go on pump gas.

If you want to rev to more than 6 grand you need to get rid of the oil injection and swap the 40 amp stator to a 16 amp one.

The motor will rev to nearly 7 grand with the standard porting, but standard cast pistons are only good for 7000 RPM anyway. Therefore unless your going to fit forged pistons the port work would really be worth it.

So if you dont want to spend much go for higher compression, get rid of the oil injection, 16 amp stator and you could fit the 2 stage reads from an XR2, unless you have a 7 petal front end which some of the early 2.5 200's did. Rejet the carbs acordingly, probably just going up one size should do it.

if you are going to go from the 40amp stator to the 16, you might want to also think about a lightened flywheel. the combo (16a stator and lighter flywheel) I beleive is good for a couple hundred rpm and easier on the crank. No more HP than before, but turn the motor higher rpm's.
