engine problem help!
I need some help
i was at the boat on Sunday getting it ready and checking it over for cowes for next week
and one of the engines wont start?
the batterys are brand new and fully charge, all wires are on and none have come off. when you turn the key there is no ignition and none of the gauge needles move?
i have put a screwdriver cross the two nuts on the solenoid to start the engine that way and it is dead as a door nail not even a spark?
i have had a look at the starter motor and all looks ok
i do not have a clue whats wrong and why it wont start can anyone help
i have 7 days to get it working
the engine is a magnum 454 330 hp

Get a cheap multimeter or a battery tester, and then there are a series of checks to ensure that lectrikity is getting to the right places.
Alternately - Where are you exactly?

My money is on the battery isolator switch being fecked, well, the contacts within are probably corroded/dirty. from sitting around unused.
try getting a jump lead, straight from the battery positive terminal, to the solenoid connection, but connect the battery end last. (and dissconect it first)

That's probably more realistic than expecting Jon to take a day off work to do a 160 mile round trip for you.

Yes, this happened to me. Electrics totally dead & despite it being up out of the way found the isolator was corroded. After cleaning it up I packed it with some Vaseline that I just happened to have lying around in the garage & it's been fine since.

Me too. on the slipway at Hythe, 30 minutes before the deadline for having the boat berthed at the Southampton Boat Show in 96. Luckily JF was there, and he diagnosed/fixed the problem and we made it with minutes to spare!

Bit of a contradiction there old boy.
The only big blocks named 'Magnum' that were 330hp were on Alpha drives from about 1986/1987 (the stop gap engine/drive package between the TRS and the Bravo), not the Bravo of 1987>. Yours are Bravo Drives aren't they? so you have 454 MAGNUM 365's (unless they've been altered) These replaced the 370hp TRS setup.
See you in Cowes
