Engine Set Back
Can someone explain to me (an amateur) what the advantages of having your engine set back from the transom are.
Cheers guys.
Rob.

Makes the engine a lot easier to work on when you've broken it!

And if you have a hydraulic lifter its something else to help run your battery down so you have to get towed in by the life boat eh Burty.

Ask a question of yourself brefore going ahead wih a lifter.
What am I going to be using the boat for?
Do I want Max Speed or functionality?
Yes they a great bit of kit and gives you an increased operation envlope, but to you really need it, really? or is it just another toy / trend.
If you want one how is your driving style, may not suit.
In time they will all break it's just at which threshold !

Well the lift came with my new engine so it wouldnt make sense not to use it. Do I need a lfter? I think everybody needs a lifter! Who wants to be stuck with a single setup only? I can drop it in for skiing or raise it out for top end speed! But as long as your engine is running flat batteries are not a problem.

agree with you to a point......
but
you risk over revving your motor if you have no experience with lifters.....(ie, you want to ski, your mate jumps in the drivers seat ???)
on a pleasure/ski boat is it really worth risking the most expensive bit of your rig.............IMO no.
Not wishing to offend those folk with lifters but i feel its more a "bling" accessory .
to me the more gadgets that you have takes some of the pleasure away cause you are constantly adjusting this or that........ instead of sitting back and enjoying the ride!

Thew other problem is that if you set it too high, you can lose water pressure and blow your engine up!

Hence the water pressure gauge I just bought! I would never never never never never never never never never never never never let anyone else drive my boat. Only skiing I will be doing is pulling a few mates around on a inflatable and ting. As for bling yeh they do look cool :-D
I have a CLE Bullet box with low water pickups so it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Wack the lifter on it make u think how u did with out it. so much easier when lauching and recovering, I hardly ever use it when im moving though dont belive its neccesary or needed to go faster. I use my trim tabs all the time though
