epoxy and polyester resins

Am i correct in saying polyester resins do NOT stick to wood that well?? If so how do they make it stick to the wood in a transom??

With Epoxy, do you still need layers of csm in between cloth to get a good mingle of the different layers (stop delaminating), im sure ive read somewhere csm doesnt respond well to epoxy resins.

Lastly can someone suggest a light core material such as that used on bulkheads please.... And is it safe for use on polyester and/or epoxy resins.

Thanks GT

'Some' companies used to prime all the timber, to seal and aid adhesion of the pollies, but those practices are rare now.

We use to score the wood up then paint cobalt on the wood ( cobalt is an accelerator and will be hard to get hold of ) and as also mentioned vinylester is sometimes used as a barrier ‘skin ‘ coat for a polyester laminate that is to be immersed in water, such as in a boat hul.

For transom we take no wood moore! We take Airex PXw.385.
If you laminate Wood with Polyester, you must prime with G4!
Better is vynilester or epoxy!
If you take epoxy and you will work with polyester again, you mast prime with vynilester!
Than you can work with poyester again.
Regards,
Kai

Yes epoxy is fine with balsa and foam. You can use CSM with a special binder for epoxy as it's the binder that hinders the cure.
Most fabrics that you would use with epoxy come with a light mat layer stitched to the back to help inter laminar bond.
This is not necessary with epoxy, but advisable with vinyl and essential with poly.
