Fastest propellor boat.....

If you were to design the fastest propellor driven boat for a world speed record, what would you design?

Is it Mrs Budweiser that holds the record at the moment?
Good to have the centre of aerodynamic pressure well aft…are you planing to feed to nitrous to your V24?

A three point hydro probably, exactly like Kittens only completely different.

I guess Miss Bud holds the record because it can do two passes, as per the record regs. (if indeed it does hold the record)

Top fuel drag boats go ultimately faster I believe, so maybe a drag setup with a more durable, not quite so powerful engine. and set up for the flying kilo, rather than a 400 metre drag.

They currently 'top out' at 280mph.
There is an actual record for the elapsed time and a record for the 'top out speed'
Elapsed time is what wins the event, 'top out speed' is like a second place trophy....

Would be interesting, as most of them are basically monohulls. British monohull inboard propellor driven record is currently 98mph...

Didn't Guido Cappellini build a specific boat in 2005 to set the F1 record and get 240.8 KMH beating Alan Marshalls record of 234Kmh?

It was slightly long and slimmer than a standard F1 boat!

On Friday 13 June 1930, Segrave drove Miss England II to a new record of 98.76 mph

BLAH BLAH BLAH

concerns were raised that the Miss England's hulls were too light in design and construction, particularly around the hydroplane's step.

145.4 mph OLD
149.1 mph NEW

current record 220mph = roughly 340KPH

Monos! 3 point hydros I'd have said., true 3 point dydros at that. 3 contact points, two front sponsons and the prop.

I would have thought there were a dozen ski racing boats that would beat Howard Wretham's 98mph monohull record if they put their mind to it.

Some of those ski race boats claim to run 110.

He didn't specify hull type in his first post.

This is nothing to do with my first post, which does not place restrictions on boat hull type....

You gotta keep up mr fuller....

However, are we sure the miss england hydroplanes would not be classed as monos today? look more like a stepped mono design to me.

description from wikipedia:

"One of the unique things about these boats is that they only use the water they're on for propulsion and steering (not for flotation)—when going at full speed they are primarily held aloft by a principle of fluid dynamics known as "planing", with only a tiny fraction of their hull actually touching the water"

nowadays we think of 3 point hydros, but back then I reckon they were little more than stepped monos.

Fastest UK propeller driven boat and driver is Jim Noone, in Miss Windermere VI, at 154.77mph, on Windermere Record Week in Oct 2003.
And it is a 3-point Hydroplane, built by Bob Nelson (of Barracuda Raceboats), and Ron Wolbold (of Blufin).
