Fuel Cleanliness

I thought I'd just remind everybody how important it is to keep on top of your fuel system. I was recently sent some injectors from a V6 Merc for investigation as they were "not working". On stripping them They were found to be filthy, had obviously had some contaminated fuel through them and could probably have caused serious engine damage had they been able to be used. So a few simple steps could save thousands in repair bills.

Only fuel from locations with known quality fuel. Many waterside fuel locations can have poor quality contaminated fuel.
If you fuel from cans always use a water seperating filter funnel.
Regularly change your fuel filters and take samples from your tank to make sure there is no contamination.
Drain the fuel system and add water absorbing fuel treatment at fillup if you dont use the boat for long periods of time.

The pictures show the rusty water and debris shaken fromthe injector after the filter baskets were removed.

Ultra sonic cleaning didnt work then !! Unless he is still putting dirty fuel through.
I have had excellent results on other injectors and carburettors !!!

we did a spray test Bob after he got them back from you and 3 didn't fire at all. must have been properly blocked. when I've had them cleaned before they are plugged into a loom so not only ultra sonic but also pulsed at same time to flow the cleaning solution through them.

Sounds like you know more about them than me Bob, Anyway all six were stripped, chemically ultra sonically cleaned and rebuilt with new hoses, ferrules, pintle caps and filter baskets, tested and calibrated on a commercial machine. The injectors had actually seen very little use and perform well now there rebuilt. If somebody else cleaned them I'm surprised they were in the state they were. On their way back.

For the record yes, they are my injectors and yes rob I did send all six, give me some credit!

Bob, I hadnt run the engine at all when we tried cleaning the injectors so unsure what you mean about still putting dirty fuel in, not only that I didnt have a contact for avags at that stage but with your help am know sorted on that front.

I was aware that they needed cleaning when I brought the engine and have no issues at all what so ever, everdays a school day and I'll be honest I didnt realise that they could ever get so bunged up.
