#Six's would be lovely, but again, you'd need to be sure they're fresh. 1.6:1 is getting on the low side too, probably intended for quite high revving motors. And, they don't have the transom assy's, and they could cost as much again as the drives.
The new #Six's are dry sump (far less power losses), and cost circa 22k each inc the transom assy, + gettin em home/tax etc
There really aint an easy fix.
The ones TD talks about are cheap. but would require using your lowers, which Jim says are shimmed wrong! ...back to square one.
The same site has complete new #3's, for $14k each

Counter Rotating Cleavers 16" currently on E Bay-Not sure if these would be suitable but might be cheap-no mention of pitch size

Martin,
Konrads are another alternative, In particular this one
http://www.konradmarine.com/index.cfm?optionid=9405
Meant to be absolutely bullet proof but may require a second and third mortgage to purchase.

he talks in post 3 about breaking it down and it's got no 3s
......................or you could buy the whole thing and break it down yourself..................OH

Kerry love,
I dont confess to being a 100% on these boating things but are the bits we are talking about the dangle down things at the back with what looks like a kenwood attachment on them. If so are they not missing from the picture you posted.
see you up stairs shortly pet xxxxxxx, turn the light off on your way

Hmm - I think I understand now.
Because the lowers have dual down shafts, they need to be shimmed for the correctly to ensure the rear gear/shaft is loaded up - if you run it the otherway it'll effectively be running with a clearance such that the rear shaft & gears won't be taking any load.
So what am I missing? I assume (and I appreciate assume makes an Ass out of U & Me) the drives are counter rotating and that the counter rotation is handled by the gearboxes bolted to the motors? So 1 lower is designed to handle clockwise, the other counter clockwise?
Yours, ignorantly...M

Dear Marty,
Mrs M has just pointed that the egg whisk bits are missing and I politely explained that it is normal to remove said items from a boat on land to allow the gimbals to rest in the correct position whilst allowing the said boat to be manouvered around the yard without the said egg whisks dragging along the floor.
She has said that whilst I was very polite she will in future keep her nose out of boaty things that obviously only you and that bloke marty know about.
Anyways it seems she has a good point in reality, although we don't need to let her know, They'll be a bloody site easier to post if they're not attached to 40 foot of boat

reasonable at £13k reading the previous post from Jim if you get these it will cost you £500 an hour because in 25hours you would have to get them rebuilt. stupid question but would it not be a better investment to get the sixes as they will last longer???

exactly....
And when I say "reasonable" what I mean is this the best and cheapest way forward - not that I have a spare £13k laying around........ but may need to sell a rally car to make the cash....
