Gearbox problem

Can anyone identify the part in pic-1 ? (no signs of being broken off anything) was found in the position shown in pic-2 ( on the gear selector) when the gearbox was stripped after the selector snapped pic-3 in the LA race at the weekend

confused to how it got there or where it's come from

..... forgot to mention that it is a Yam 90 Gearbox ...

sure is .. i was kinda knackered when i stripped it last night after getting home from LA , realised where it was from just after i posted this evening but was to late to delete the post.
