Question Gill Bracket

Just a quicky

Is a standard gill bracket on a Ring 21C strong enough to hold an optimax 200?

I do hope it is...

I'm not aware of a Ring 21 having even been fitted with a "gill bracket", but the normal Ring standoff bracket is pretty strong, although we did have a few problems when we first used them on the Honda Race boats!

Ah right. Sorry Tony!

Its a 21C, the date under the dash is 1986. Was advertised on here a few weeks back... the "standoff bracket" looks fine, no signs of stress at all...

When you say "problem" did it just fall off? Or show signs of failure... Really don't want to see my engine sink to the bottom!

Do you think it will be ok? I'm not going to be out jumping waves for quite a while...

I reckon it'll be fine. We didn't ever have a bracket fail, but 1 or 2 showed signs of some welds starting to let go after some particually rough races, so we had extra fillets welded in and didn't have anymore problems! I repaired the transom on a R21 once, that had a bracket with a 275 Cosworth on it, it broke the transom, but the bracket was fine!

The hull is very tidy, doesn't seem to have been abused so hopefully the transom will be fine... Well the engine is going on on monday, so i just have to hope! lol

Are the cosworth's a 3.4ltr? Think thats what I read somewhere on here...

Cheers for the info Tony, much appreciated.

Andy
