Stop tryin to be cool you nobber. The charge coolers would need to be in that single tube from the Y joint and it's just a pipe.

charge coolers

It looks like its rigged slightly differently in the boat maybe they didnt bother fitting the coolers for the demo run,s as you would not need them ?

looks like a pretty good install though be nice to see vid of them under full load before you splash your cash

Agreed, the pipework appears to head off somewhere, and back into the inlet manifold in the 'installed' pic. One would assume that 'somewhere' is the location of the intercooler.

Exactly, the charge coolers are about 18 inch long each, 8 inch diameter and were mounted right beside the engines, ie. port engine charge cooler on port side of engine and starboard engine had the charge cooler mounted on the starboard side of the engine, then the water is piped via the engine to the charge cooler back into the engine and out through the exhaust, and the turbo boost air goes through the long stainless steel 90 deg bend you can see in the picture to the charge cooler then out of the charge cooler into the inlet manifold.

They certainly do look well put together.

I plan to drive over to collect them. Both will be set up on the bench and running. Just finalising transport and checking sizes for these units, as compared with the 5.7 260hp Mercruiser engines.

A little big bigger, quite a bit heavier (they're around 400 kg's), exact same bell housing pattern, engine mount location etc, so a simple direct replacement in most cases.

If that was for the pair I think they would be very popular indeed - or am I mistaken!

Each, just the motor, no drive. That's the peninsular specced one.

Thanks Jon, the extra weight is interesting. I have some more spec´s that you will probably understand, more than me. both engines have two engine oil coolers each, one gearbox cooler each and a sealed cooling system through a heat exchanger. They also have stud girdles, phazer timing and high output oil pumps. The engines have the bigger marine pre cups and higher injector pop off pressures than standard. These engines are not even run in yet, about 20 hours.

Some of this is all French to me but I guess you will understand it all.

If the extra weight is an issue with my hull, would a boyant extention, to the transom (above the running line) be a possible sollution?

PS, can you direct me to anywhere, where I can find weight, dimentions etc, for these engines? Maybe with compatability to others.

Thanks

Pete

the peninsular site will give weights, at least of their marinised version.
I don't think the weight will be a problem in a 36 footer. I have a pair in a very narrow P28, where it is a bit of an issue, but yours is a much bigger boat.

That is strange.

These are the specs I found for the Mercruiser, followed by the specs for the bigest Peninsular engine.

MerCruiser 5.7 TKS (260-hp) Fast Facts Propshaft HP 260-hp
Configuration V8
Displacement 5.7 L / 350 CID
Bore & Stroke 4.00 x 3.48
Fuel System 2V Carb with Turn Key Start & Electric Fuel Pump
Base Engine Weight 888 lbs.
Length/Width/Height 43x 30 x 22
Max RPM@WOT 4200-4600
Warranty 3-year
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
400TAI-340Horsepower
Turbocharged Marine Diesel Engine
with High Output Fuel Injection System

The 400TAI, rated at 340BHP supplies the extra power that makes the difference when the throttle goes down. A high output fuel injection system matched with the turbo air flow delivers unprecedented diesel power, outperforming many others. You’ll love this top performing engine intended for pleasure craft applications.

Model: 400TAI-340
Engine Type: Four Cycle
Number of Cylinders: Eight
Bore and Stroke: 4.06″ x 3.82″
Displacement: 400cu.in. (6.554cc)
Fuel Pump: Stanadyne-Mechanical (DB4)
Brake Horsepower: 340BHP at 3600 rpm
Peak Torque: 495ft.lbs. at 2200 rpm

Dimensions (approx.):
Dressed engine length: 46.69″ with 72C 1:1 transmission Width: 29.25″
Height: 30.62″
Weight (dry): 1020lbs.

This looks like a difference of 132 lbs (59.874 192 84 kilogram)

888lbs looks like weight WITH a Borg Warner velvet drive gearbox (& cooler) not sure if the Peninsular is specced with, or without the gearbox.

But I can tell you that in practice, my P28 sits way lower in the water than my mates P28 with small blocks. And remember, it's not just the actual engine, there's a lot of associated extra weight. big batteries, big battery cables etc, etc. It all ads up.

As the mercruiser site states "Base Engine Weight 888 lbs." I would think this was "engine only". Although Peninsular state "length" with the drive, they mention notihing about drive in the weight. I completely understand the point of "extra" equipment and this will make a lot of difference, in my mind. Although, I have been told, by the seller, that the complete setup, including engines, drives, ancilaries and offshore steering system, with tie bar, should weigh in at about 2 ton and the engines about 1.5 ton. I guess he has some idea, as he built the engines and run them in the boat.

Anyway, we have blue sky here so if she is bow high, it won´t be the end of the world.

Not completely sure about the weights but we will see soon. Correct, I have already bought them. Why am I asking? because I don´t know everything.

Circa 15 imperial gallon/hour WOT. but obviously depends on the motor.
