GPS Smart Craft Speedo

Did i see some time ago talk on here of a GPS transponder (similar to one used with Evinrude 250HO) that could be fitted and connected to Mercury Smart Craft speedo for accurate MPH reading.

I've got a Lowrance GPS receiver with an NMEA2000 connector, would that plug into the smart craft?

Smart craft has an input for NMEA 0183 for speed from any GPS that has an output - it's the blue wire plus an earth.
