Help! Decal Removal
Help! Decal Removal
I wanted to replace my scratched decal on my outboard
Removing - Yamaha Outboard Boat Decals
To remove the decals I had to use a heat gun, but this does not seem to work for the adhesive that’s left behind.
I have tried:
Acetone
Petrol
Carb Cleaner
WD-40
Farecla g3
Farecla g6 elctric compounder
Autoglym tar and adhesive remover
Scourer
Stick Stuff Remover Gel
Still this suff does not move, I am going to have to sand and re-spray the entire cowl?

white spirt we use, leave it on for a few minutes to break down the glue then scrape with a plastic filling scrapper.

Thanks for the reply forgot to say I tried that as well last night.
My garage was like a ticking time bomb! Stank to high heaven with all the highly flamable products I had been using.

decal removal
Hi,
I use universal thinners from any auto paint shop. Just be very careful with it as it'll take the paint off as well if you're not sparing with it. Also keep the garage door open and wear a fume mask or you'll be high as a kite!

Autosmart Gelsolve works, or just go to your local sign writers and ask for some of the dedicated glue remover they use.

Thanks for all the replies, took it to local body shop, they managed to remove some of it but only by damaging paint. Opted for respray in the end. Think the heat gun may have made things worse!

Toffie wheel for removing sticker crap, have to be careful because it will burn the paint really easily &/or just go straight through!

boiling water from the kettle then just peel off..remove glue residue with lighter fuel

When I used to work at University Marine (Evinrude /OMC) it was with warm water that we used to prepare & replaced decals.

I once sprayed 3M90 spray mount on some red vinyl once, it melted it, so have used it to remove vinyl a couple of time since, not sure I'd try it on a boat without testing it won't do any harm first. I then use Sticky Stuff Remover to clean the much off.
Safest way is warm water and patience.
