help with an xr2

took a freinds boat out on sunday
a p20 with an xr2, apparently the later 200
due to him having a problem, trim down to far and the boat just bogs down, trim up a little and it seems to cavitate like hell (loadsa revs, no action)
this was with a 21" HIGH 5, HES ALSO HAD THE SAME PROB WITH A FEW OTHER PROPS ASWELL SO DONT SUSPECT THIS TO BE THE PROB
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED, AS IM AT A LOOSE END TO WHAT IT IS
CHEERS

So from what you said the engine runs ok. So...

1. Twisted driveshaft spline / broken drive shaft (Maybe)

2. Knackered dog clutch/dowel pin

3. Bullet lockring locktab missing/loose lockring

4. Bushed prop but unlikely if it does it on several.

More info, speed, revs, how old is the engine came from where?

Raise the motor.
I ran an XR2 on my ring 18 for 12 months and it ran well around an inch below. I wouldn't go that far straight away as i guess your oin the sea but try raising it some.
I ran a 22 QSS prop in that set up. Well worked XR2 though.
I ran a 2.5 260 after that and the bullet was in line with the V.
Hope i'm of some help.

Thats what i said but unfortunatly the transoms been cut for a 15" at some point so with the 20" leg on there 3" below is the highest it can go.

A pal of mine had his transom cut for a 15 incher but his 20 that is on now is able to sit up high enough.
Could always build it back up or even put an engine jack on. I had an engine jack on mine because it had a low original transom. All worked well. I'll see if i've any pics.
