Jay, do you focus purely on the powerhead end of things with the V6's, or do you cover gearbox's etc too?

Hi Jay,

Good to see you back on here

Engine still running great. Lucky for me we have a simlair boat down the coast for training and as a standby, so your engine is still fresh . . . . unlike me! Broke my ankle in a water ski race on 13/6/09 at 1145! Had couple of operations, all healed up ok. Got an 8" plate and various screws in there, physio for the next 6 weeks. Hope to race again next year.

You take care, ya hear

Scott

PS weather is rubbish!!!!!

Try Simon Motor Sports he is the 3 liter guy in the states...

I have built 1 pair of twin 250 XS Opti 3 liter engines I didn't like what I saw inside , IMO 3 liters have 1980 rotating assembly with a space shuttle fuel and ignition system. And heavy as an icebox..They are torque animals BUT I like light weigh HP and RPMs...

Just my opinion,
Jay

I was always under the impression that the 250xs had a pretty good reputation as production motors go. And that it was less hassle to run/own than say a 300xs stroker (that in truth probably had lass than the stated 50hp gain over the 250) ??

This is nothing but my opinion, but after the success Mercury had with the 2.5 line of engines to install bottom guided rods in their new 3 liter wonder ( one of the best ways to scruff off HP with larger frictional contact ) and to retrofit old 1980's style loose con rod bearing with the old cave man wire cages is IMO 3 steps backwards. When design engineers are designing a new engine and can with a stroke of a pencil either learn from a proven success story ( the 2.5 ) and continue the positive evolution or revert back to 1980 tec. its a shame and very confusing, my money is that the 1980 style bearing was $.25 cheaper per bearing, "School Kid Bean Counter Type Engineers" gotta love em ! ...

BTW : I choose not to work on 3 liter engines although I get asked to daily.... I stay covered up with 2.5.'s .. I have daily calls from folks that got talked into the 3 liter and had owned 2.5's I built for them in the past got talked into traded "UP" now looking for 280's and wanna get rid of the 3 liter...

Believe it or not

The above is only my .02 and just my meager opinion....
