Jack plates

Has anyone used a Jack Plate to help with engine height setup?

Instead of lifting the engine off the transom every time you want to try different heights, you optimise using a Jack plate.

The flaw i can see is the inevitable set back that a jack plate would bring about, however would the small 2.5" manual jack plate such as this one from bobs have that much effect and difference once removed? http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/...onvertible.cfm

This Australian company have a slightly different take on jack plates. Instead of moving up and down, this one moves the engine forwards and backwards.

that is strange, Combine this with a convensional jack plate, trim tabs, power trim it could get really confusing! I imagine prop matching could also start tto get even more complicated.

jackplates are intended to get more speed

setback increases bowlift , en let's engine sit higher for less drag from lower, and with semi surfacing the prop for a higher pitch .

there are some hulls like some bernicos that run the best with 12"setback
