Just not fast enough
Took the new boat out tday for a ski
now the boats a 5.3 avon rib
75hp 2strokr Suzuki
there were 5 peoplein the boat at I rekon a compined weight of 60stone
an in it's defence did pull me, my gf and my sister all up on a slalom ski (not at the same time!)
but for me, None of us popped out, but it wasn't the longest pull I've ever had if you get me, but flat out, trimmed out, the boat still wasn't fast enough for me!
I don't know the pitch of the prop so will check but wondering if I could change it. Tje boat, when I was driving , trimmed out with six on board was reving out at 5500rpm could it go to more?? Or could it just be down to the weight ?
Cheers
chris

Chris you can't expect miracles!!! you need to try it with just 2 in the boat and one on the back, or try distributing the weight betterer.

im not expecting miracles
didnt know if the engine revving out at 5500 was to do with the weight in the boat or the prop
also all the weight was at the nose (BETTER HOLE SHOT)
so was that wrong?
but yea having that sorta weight will make a bit or a difference right?
btw sorry i didnt ring last nite phone ran outa battery, ill give you a bell later once finished work if conveniant?

Your DT75 could run a few more RPM, but the limiter will kick in at around 6000rpm anyway. If you intend running the boat a bit lighter, then you'll prob hit max rpm with the prop you've got. You could run a lower pitch if the boat will always carry that sort of load. I would guess that you have a 17" pitch fitted at the moment. A 16" pitch would be hard to find, as the Soozook props ran in 2" increments. A 15" pitch would be better for holeshot, but you'd probably have the limiter kicking in at full pelt, especially with less people on board.

i remeber having a suzkui 115 on my old 16ft ring
and that had a limiter etc too
also they both have sucked the primer bulb in
admitedly the one i had now just did it in the first ten mins and then was fine forn the next 3 hours
with the limiter, it does drop your revs for you doesnt it??
i will deffo have to try it with two people in and see what difference is seen as we had a minimum of 5 people of the boat at any one time yesterday
also what is the biggest engine i could possiobly slam on the back when money permits
i am partical to a merc v6 150 eventually, anyone think thats a tad unrealistic?
cheers

If your Avon is a 5.4m Searider, then it's rated to 90hp max. A Merc 150hp would be bonkers on it.
A stainless prop would give better performance, but on your boat, with 75hp, it would probably be unnoticeable.

Then as anyone who would know me well would know saying something like that is like a red rag to a bull
would it really be that bad??
Possibly go for a 115 or the like then
I know it will never be as fast as the ring but I do want for a bit more
eventually that is

I've seen SR5.4 with 115hp motors and they're a bit stern heavy, which can be counteracted by putting the fuel tanks further forward.
