Mariner 200hp set up

you need to change the regulators to a single 16 amp one . also ditch the ignition advance modules and set the timing to 25 at wot

I always wondered what you gain with switching over to a light flywheel? I have one on the shelf for my 2.5 200.

I dont think you will see any more mph? Just maybe better acceleration imo.

The lifter is about £500. yes it is hydraulic. i will PM you the contact details.
I think it is a land and sea lifter or CMC. only used once, literally once.

I would also recommend a trophy 24" prop or maybe a renegade. if you want 23 blade i like rakers. they are a handful out of the box but get them tamed and they are great high speed props.
All the best
Paul

The Transom bracket at the moment is at its lowest setting and the hook is sitting on the top of the transom. So bolting the Transom bracket higher to lift the engine will obviously lift the hook off of the Transom completely. I guess this does not cause a problem?

No.

Good, didnt think it would.

Thanks for all the help guys

When you trim up and the revs increase does the boat accelerate?

Mirage props give good lift!

Yes i think so, I had the rev's off the scale and managed to get just over 50 out of it. Trimmed in i get about 45 ish and slightly less rpm. I think its due to the prop or the engine set too low. The prop is a 5 blade with a 23 pitch, but accelaration is phenomenal and instant but no top end. I borrowed a lazer11 with a 26 pitch to see if 3 blades and a slightly higher pitch will make any difference before raising the engine, which i think is far to low, the bullet is a good 2-3 inches below the bottom of the boat. If there is an improvement with this prop and the engine where it is, I will lift the engine and see how much improvement that makes too. I think the boat has just been set up for skiing not top speed.

Then let her spin! Don't raise it any more until you fit a low water pick up/nose cone and probably a good idea to fit a water pressure gauge if you dont already have one.

But for now let the motor spin up and trim it out a little, then see where you are!

Hi I've just tried using a high five at higher speed and it was scary,up to 50 mph OK but got very twitchy similar to chine walk but this was on dead flat like glass water and I thought we were on for good top speed but it felt far to unstable to push it any faster ,normally the boat feels more stable with the engine down but with the high five it was better with it up ie point level with bottom,my best result so far has been a 21p OFFSHORE 4 blade (Discontinued)prop,it gave 50 mph in choppy water at 5,000 revs boat felt very stable and with 2000 revs left should give a good top end

so you all propped up and sorted for ilfracombe then nic?
im scared now
just centred and lifted the engine another 40mm i suppose,
and put the plate on, but as the tides are as they are will have NO! practice time before hand :brain:
lol

Is your engine 150 or 200hp xr2 ? If it's a 200hp xr2 your P20 should be doing mid 70's

defo,, my old r20 with 200 merc 26p chopper would easy get to 70mph so p20 should be quicker

Its the 200 Hp,aparently it has done 70 mph previuosly, but I'm new to a boat of this type and just building up confidence and feel at higher speeds,I've seen 63 mph on gps so getting there and if I can get to 70 mph i'll be happy.I can't believe the difference changing props can have on the feel of the boat,as previuosly noted the High Five was frightening at high speed it felt like it was trying to spit the boat out of the water-most feel quite steady up to 50 mph but change there after.Nic
Question approx what does an extra 1000 rpm mean in speed increase or does it not work like that ?

I was trying to get out at the weekend for a final test, but suffered an acute muscle spasm in my back which I'm desperately getting treatment for to be fit for the weekend-ironically spasm probably caused by lifting ballast into the bow of the boat,Pills are working well but make me very drousey so will probably fall asleep on the start line.I did suggest visiting a masage parlor but the Mrs was not very keen-can't think why.

Sorry just read this again, when I said best result it was not speed but stability and response, although saying that Burty got it to 65 mph with this prop(Offshore) but he knows what he's doing and I don't and I didn't want him to take it past 7,000 rpm

It depends on your prop pitch and gearbox ratio.

I am suprised you felt the 5 blade felt angry, i have always found the more blades the more stability.
Generally speaking i run 3 blades for speed and 4 blades for acceleration and stabillity. i must admit i have never run a 5 blade.

good luck

I was supprised I have used a 21p High that felt good but reved out at 55 mph, thought the 23P would be good for a higher top speed and keep the revs down a bit,but on flat like glass water up on the pad the boat kept falling to one side or the other and steering imput seemed to make no difference, putting the engine right up seemed to make it better but still not happy to push it much faster, perhaps I need bigger balls?

I'd get someone who knows what they are doing to check your setup. Sounds like something is very wrong, I've owned 2 P20's and they are a great handling boat even my mate with a standard 200 mariner on a very heavy P20 gets over 70 mph and he can't drive {sorry Paul }
