Mariner/Mercury Bogging issue

Hello All

I have just purchased a 150ho mariner/mercury outboard approx. 1990.
I bought the engine knowing it had this fault with the intention of breaking it for parts.
However once I took off the scruffy scratched clamshell. The engine is fantastically clean and looks like its have very little use.
Shame to break.

I was told the engine starts and runs fine in a barrel or on muffs ,put it in the sea and under load it will not rev....
Any ideas , ive tested the compression and all are around the 122-127 mark.
If its an easy fix I may keep it and fit to my boat, if not it will sadly be dismantled for parts..
Cheers Peter

Do the basics first..
Timing, synchronize and linkages, check spark on all 6, clean carbs etc.
Failing that its likely a stator..

Sounds like it's not firing on every cyl, check for spark, plugs then coils
