250 Xs Alarm

I don't know if you have the little manual operation, maintenance and warranty for 250 xs.
Anyway, here is what merc say on this little manual.
Over speed= Continuous beep=monitor display=yes
Guardian activated=yes
Percentage of full power available=65%
If the max rev of your engine is 5800rpm, your over speed is at 5950rpm.
If you use a 20 inches leg model after 2004 the max is 6300rpm.
If you use a 25 inches leg your engine rpm max is 5800rpm.
Upon reaching the rev limit, the guardian system activates the warning horn. If the operator does not reduce engine speed within 5sec, the guardian system reduces available power to 65%.
To deactivate the guardian system protection :
1) Completely reduce the throttle for 2 to 3seconds.
2) Re-engage the throttle. If the engine does not respond, repeat step 1.
Remember:
It's possible to activate the over speed limit in neutral throttle position and goes in guardian mode if you use a foot throttle.
Propeller pitch too small, should be your problem
Ventilation during ''hole shot''
Or at high speed, with engine close to the max rev limit if you catch air around the prop in rough water and activate the guardian system....
I don't think your fuel leak is in connetion with the over speed activation.

250 xs guardian mode

You have also on this engine another protection called neutral rev limit.
In neutral, if you use the manual trottle lever or activate the foot throttle above 1900 rpm, the engine goes in guardian mode, may be that's what you want to know.
