Mercruiser.....oil pressure switch? for fuel pump? confused?

hi all, i am replacing my oil perssure sender but on the same brass fitting i had another small block with 2 wires going to it, purple and purple/yellow. was unsure what it was but after taking it off and caping off the outlet on the engine so i could move the boat the engine kept stalling, i later i realised/think its to the fuel pump? i think i have concluded that its a switch for the fuel pump so the pump comes on only when the enging is turning or running, makes sence but is that right? since starting it in the winter i have since lost it and need to replace it but not sure what it is and where to get one can anyone help?
its a 4.3 ltr mercruiser prob mid 90's?

cheers
