Mercury 150 optimax steering arm corrosion
My new purchase has surface rust on the steering arm etc . How worried should I be ! What would new parts cost ? Hoping to use the boat all summer and have them replaced over the winter

They all rust to shit there. But they are made of plenty of metal. If the bushes all seem good, then leave it till the end of the summer. Then over the winter you can whip it off, blast & powder coat... then refit with new grease and bushes for next season.

I have one with a lower Yoke, but it's located in Denmark.
I can ship if you are interested.

When the head is off, you might also want to check the yoke and check/replace the motor mounts, both upper and lower.

id say so lol,
The steering tube I've just thrown away from an 88 blackmax was in a million times better condition.
get solid mounts whilst your at it! its so annoying when the rubber ones go and you then cant get the blots out!
i believe nickskip can now get them made at a very reasonable price. if not just get them imported from bobs machine shop.
