Mercury identity

Maybe my new purchase of a Mercury 40hp 4cylinder (2 stroke) is a bit mundane for this race forum, however -
any chance of finding it's year?
I can't find a serial number anywhere only the small round engine plate which reads '9582419'
It was scrap my old Thunderbird dory or find a smooth running two stroke. The estuary speed limit is supposed to be 6knots.

Thank you Schim. It's a difficult engine to get info.

Smile Mer 40 brochure

Hi, Agree with Schim the age is 93 or just before. Here are some pdf pages from the 94 Merc brochure. The cowl graphics are updated but the 40 XR is the outgoing 4 cyl 40 model. Technical data and blurb attached FYI.

Heavens! I keep some Sh*te, but I just knew it would come in handy one day.

DoubleSix - that's made me very happy . . .
I'm putting together a logging boat (collecting firewood) cos I live on the side of the Fowey.
Thought the 4 cylinder would be a quieter smoother 2 stroke; bought it on eBay last week. We will see, when I have found a remote ignition socket with harness whether it works.
There is even a workshop manual and service manual on the way from USA!
