Mercury tilt and trim

I'm after some advice (again)

I have a Signature 1900 fitted with a mercury 135 blue max (which apparently has been jetted out to 155, but have no way of confirming) I have recently and after a long extensive search finally managed to get some water time.

The boat and engine are handling fine, more speed would be great but it does a fair lick as it is, at some time you have to go as fast as your pockets allow, and not what your heart would wish.

The tilt and trim works but the gauge does not, not a problem I thought as I have so far judged by sound and feel, and a as a rule of thumb if the top case is ruffly parallel, that is around mid trim.

Now being the inquisitive type I decided to take it off and have a look

Well I now have a sender unit off the engine (and in the bin) and 2 sheared screw heads sticking out of the casing.... ooops !

Finally the question .... is it really worth replacing the sender, or just carry on guessing?

It's nice to have all instruments working but it's better to run with what you feel is best (the indication is a general quide).
Most likely the problem with the faulty gauge was a bad earth on the sender unit (I've had it lodsa times).
If you (can/wish) replace the sender unit, make sure you apply lots of grease to the fixing bolts.
