Mercury XR2 V6 200hp over fueling

Hi all
I have a Marshan 19 with a mercury xr2 v6 200hp outboard 2 stroke on the back and i think its about 1980s. I took it out to southampton on the weekend and found it is seriously over fueling. I done about 80 liters in 4mile if that, and at idle you can see the fuel and oil floating around on the surface of the water. Has any body got any ideas why its doing that???

Cheers

It idles fine just chucks a fair bit of fuel/oil out the exhaust on idle. when you put the throtle down it bogs rite down and cuts out. some people think it could be the floats in the carbs.

Thats what I'd be thinking, are you running an electric fuel pump? If so, what pressure, it could be blowing past the needles.

Is the primer stuck on?

We are running a mechanical fuel pump. last year the boat was running great, then we had to replace the stator and since then its been over fueling.

Apologies for re-starting this topic but mark224 has sold the boat on to a friend of mine with the problem still present. I would like to point out that he didnt make the problem known prior to sale!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try the fuel pump - if one of the diaphragms has failed it will dump fuel directly into the relevent cylinder (well crankcase area of the relevent cylinder). If this is the case you would normally see one plug spotlessly clean as its being costantly washed.

Hope that helps. Moose

I am the owner of this boat now... Mark, you my friend are a crook and were very lucky you didn't end up in hospital or court!! Lets just say I'm still contemplating what to do about you.

Not only are you a con man but you must be some what retarded if you couldn't work out what was wrong with the thing! Seriously dude, for you're own good... do not ever set eyes on any sort of mechanicing tool ever again!
