Modified or standard Marshan

Hi
Is the notch at the bottom of the transom on this Marshan 19 standard or a modification? My 16 don't have one, should I go out right now and make one.

Dunno, I've never seen a Marshan with a notch like that, and can't really imagine what it's purpose would be, other than allow a short shaft motor to get water.

Have a look on the forum of http://screamandfly.com there will be lots of posts about strenthning on there with pictures. You won't find any Marshan boats on there but the principall applies to all hulls

My marshan 19 had one. There was a hull change ona certain year but cant remember which one? The notch is the later one though. Colin the builder at romney marsh told me when i had a new screen made. Nice bloke.

My Marshan 19 has this modification and according to Nigel Bailey who did a write up on these boats for 'Powerboat Magazine' in June 1980 (I have a copy of the article) the reason is as follows:

'the Sleaps have introduced a modification into the normal deep-vee hull for this boat. They were seeking to overcome the dilemma of keeping the propeller high in relation to the transom for maximum speed whilst still giving it a good supply of water when accelerating from low speeds so that there would be good torque to get skiers up on plane.
To achieve these conflicting requirements a small semi circular section has been taken out of the apex of the transom and this extends into a short tunnel before abruptly resuming the normal hull shape forward of the transom.
When the throttle is opened at low speeds the bow of the boat points in the air and this alteration of trim allows the water to flow freely through this tunnel to feed the propeller.
Once up at planing speeds the boat levels off and the front edge of this tunnel cuts the water flow off cleanly and the boat runs normally with the propeller well placed for maximum eficiency'

The 19' did have the cut out as described, so did the 21' but it wasn't as severe

Wasn't the Sharpe just a cheap copy of the Marshan? but like these foreign Phantoms?
