no spark!!!!

Can anyone help?
On rebuilding my xr2 after turning it over I don't have a spark on any of the plugs. It has a new stator and I've swapped the switch boxes out but it's made no difference. Really don't know where to start next! Any help much appreciated!

Kill switch!! Remove Yellow / Black from switch box and recheck for spark, beware if it starts you will have to earth the contact to stop it.

Could be the kill switch and also there may be an IN LINE fuse on the red wire at the starter sylinoid. May be blown..Also check the key switch 8 pin harness for cleanness take a razor blade and spread the male terminal so that it contacts the female with more tention, The purple wire with bullet connector is key switched HOT check for 12 volts when key is on.. It should be a the rear of the starter.

Good luck,
Jay

First thing I've always done is totally disconnect the control box at the loom plug then short the starter solenoid to start it. The motor should generate it's own spark, but as bob said, you'll have to earth the kill wire (yellow/black) to stop it.

Few other things that have caught me out... how do you know there's no spark? I spent ages trying to diagnose an engine wih no spark once, turns out it was fine though, I just couldnt see the spark With a timing light connected all was much clearer. Turned out the fuel was rubbish.

I also once tried to start an outboard with it just connected to the battery by jump leads, that didn't work either. Once it was properly connected up to the battery it fired up first time!

Hope something in there helps!

James

I suspect this other story has nothing to do with boats?
