Opti 150. Dead. Looking to swap with 4 stroke.

Friend of mine has a 1999 150 Opti that sounds like it snapped a rod this week. 250 hours on it.
As these are hard to find its got to be worth stripping and saving.
What equivalent sized 4 stroke would be its best replacement. 6.5m leeway (this isn't a leeway bitch thread. It's an engine swap question. )
It's possible he may decide to rebuild and sell on the Opti and look for a 4 stroke to replace soon so it gets him back on the water.

We had a lot of work done on our 150 optimax last year, steering arm, bushes and an engine re build, Steve hutch did the work for us. Would I do it again financially no, could of bought 2 old mercs for the money we put into the motor. That being said it has run good this year and is very good on fuel consumption

Tris,

The optimax is a great outboard and more economical than a 4 stroke.

their was a guy on this forum selling complete 150 opti powerheads?? so might be worth a wanted add in classifieds.

personally i would buy a cheap optimax complete unit off of ebay and use blown one as spares or sell off in parts as parts are well sort after.
