Amazing batteries. Ours has survived 3 years of hard racing including coming loose once and still tested within 2 amps of it's rating the other day!

I believe Barrus no longer supply Optima batteries with Verado's because they've had so many problems with them!

I have just replaced the three marine batteries on the old Cheetah with two RTC 4.2 red top batteries and have had excellent results, even though the engines are 5.5 litre diesels the red tops spin them over faster than the on paper larger capacity marine batteries did and it has also reduced the weight of the boat by more than 80KG.

Yeh, what with the fly by wire and the power steering pump constantly running,
they do require more power than an Opti, but I don't think that is the problem.
I'm told that the US Verado owners recommend Odyssey batteries. I've used these and they're superb. Merlin in Poole are a distributor.

I bought a blue top as a starter + main battery for my previous boat in 2002. I used it in that for two years starting a 135 Mariner then since 2005 it's been the start only battery for my current twin petrols.
It has never failed to start both engines on it's own, holds a good charge for months if left unused and has so far lasted 9 years with no sign of reaching the end of it's life..
I'd buy another one!

Just in case any one is confused as I was regarding the top colour of optima batterys which is red, yellow or blue. Here is a link to Optima UK which explaines the differnce.

Red Top Optima
Hi Dan,
We have run a red top Optima all season with our 150 optimax and had no issues at all. I'll post the part number when I get home.
Cheers
Simon
