optimax alarm

merc optimax keeps shouting off about check speedo!! had a right tantrum at 1st with no fuel no oil etc but i put it down to flatish battery. but the speedo one keeps coming back and it takes over the display so you cant view trim fuel etc...

anyone got any ideas!!

it depends what settup you have.

if you have a paddle wheel or if you have the smartcraft connected up to a gps. it changes over from sensing paddlewheel speed to water pressure or gps speed (if connected) at about 20 mile per hour.

if there is a bad connection on your water pressure sender (low down inside the cowl) looks like a mushroom with tube going in one end and an electrical connection the other, this could cause that.

check tube is connected at sender, also at little fitting near bottom swivel bracket and lower the gear box if poss and check to see if connected at top rear of gear housing.

it could also be that your gps nmea needs re setting on smartcraft calibration settings mode.

if you can tell me a bit more about under what conditions or what speed it is occuring, also what settup you have ie paddlewheel ect. i may be able to help you narrow it down a bit more.

thanks for the info!! not linked to gps i believe it was at higher speeds in general maybe between 30-40 knots! ill check the stuff out!
