Same reason other folk do it (if they do)... I just don't really know the reason that they do do...

There must be an advantage to it otherwise they wouldn't exist... So thats why I asked

A 5mph increase over 11 laps or whatever will amount to quite a lot, every little bit of speed will count. If he has a surface piercing prop and a transom lifter surely it will help overall

I'd be suprised if you noticed any speed increase in swapping to a sportsmaster lower or a nose cone. I wouldn't think your going quick enough for either to make a difference.

Maybe he'll believe you Tony!

Andy, they exist for the people running raceboats at 70/80mph plus, generally set up for racing only, not big heavy rings set up for pleasure doing 60 with the tide behind them! It'll be a great way to loose a couple of grand though, to save you the hassle of getting the gearbox, just give the 2k to me to fund my racing next year!

You could gain 5mph by learning to drive it better. I took my gf's dad out in my last cat, he used to race 3c very successfully over here. In a straight line, in any conditions, he could get at least 7mph more than me every time, usually more if it was rough.

Or is all this about wanting a nice pretty rooster?

How about the bullet size of the lower in the water ?, i think the sportmasters bullet is not as fat as a stock one.
i am not sure.... don't have the right dimension ,just pics.

thinking about a a bobs nose cone on my original bullet or a sportmaster sleek one,if it fit to my 2,4 set up.

I'm not 100% but i'm sure they're the same width, else the 'through hub' props wouldn't fit the same.
A thin lower like a ssm would be nice, but i can't see that happening as the lower on an outboard contains all the gearing.

Andy - Maybe you should fit a blowout ring to help save you from blowout at the extreme speeds you're running!!

Andy-that boat is seriously fast and has done 80 MPH wit 2.4 on it
Talk to Andy Best at Sound and Vision about it.
The cheapest go fast might be to work the prop what revs you pulling ?

Just something we found running our boat with both of those gearboxes the sporty was slower then the 200 gearbox. however we had an engine height limit, the cav can be a max height of 130mm above the plank, we ran bout 3mph quicker with the 200 box
