Bit heavy, bit noisy, but reasonable torque, and as they're the same mounting patterns as a GM V8 petrol, easy to mate with most marine gearboxes, sterndrives etc. max of 3800rpm (recommended 3600) means you need tall gearing & props if it's a high speed application.

These are 'mostly' Peninsular.

Very true sir! ..but ten years & 4000+ miles down the line, still running, with no rebuilds or holes in the side.

Lets see how history records some other more expensive & exotic items from around the solent.

Hi Scand, I don't have any experience yet but I am about to put two of these (twin turbo version) into a 36' Bonito. I'll let you know more, when I know more.

SLOW. I'm a little unsure of the rout to take. I need to take more exact measurements and decide on how to keep the motors apart. Then maybe it won't be necessary to glass the transom and start again. Working outside, in the garden, I need to be sure that I am doing what is needed.

I will update when I have more. Every day that I walk past those engines, I know where they should be. And that's not on the floor.

Thanks Pete

This is all very interesting. I've just picked an old Reinell V-204 for top to bottom renovation and it's fitted with a single 6.2lt version. Non-turbo - 160hp so not exactly under pressure!!!

I know these engines were not as good as the 6.5 but all I've heard so far is that they are all total cr*p, even the latest 6.6lt. I know the Samurai conversion is in the cr*p department but that is of no consequence as I can easily replace anything that fails on the marinising side.

It's interesting to finally hear of someone who is happy with GM V8 diesel lumps.

The 6.6 is supposed to be super strong (but a tad low revving). it's a GM / Isuzu tie up. totally different from the 6.5.

I have a pile of cast iron marine manifolds for the 6.2/6.5 that are destined for the tip if you want em.

Mine have done 300 hours / 4000+ miles. no mechanical failures at all. (they're 325hp)
