Phantom 19 Merc 15" or 20" mid section

So whats the general thought on which would be best on a 19ft Phantom Merc 2.5 with 15" or 20" mid section.

Depends if transom has been cut down.

If the transom is standard, a 20". From what I gather, raceboats will cut transom and fit a 15" to lower COG.

A 15" - lower centre of gravity and that would be the race leg as well - put a sportmaster on it as well - All IMHO of course!

Not sure about the 19 but certainly 15" on the P18 but with CLE box.

15" Mid section

Does the transom need cutting down with a 15" mid section and nose cone box fitted. or could you use a transom jack?

The transom will need cutting down if you want to use a 15" mid.

You will need to cut the transom down about 3 "

If you intend to race etc go for a 15" mid.

You can run the 20" mid with the point of the gearbox level with the bottom of the boat but it will be very close to the top of the transom.
I raced my 19 phantom with a 20 " mid with the box 1/2"down and it was still great in the rough!

You want the fuel tank right behind the front seats for the best handling and a 15 gallon bow tank.

Most people seem to find that jacks or lifters don't work on most of Steve Bakers designs - it would depend on what the boat has had on before - some ran 15" XR2's in OCR A class before they went to the Yamaha power which are 20" - they come out of the mould ready for a 20", so you'll need a measuring tape and or the boat's history!

Of course if you want a new one we'll make it to suit whatever you're fitting!

I'd imagine that would have been an XR2 in OCR, back in the days when men were men!

Are you sure that wasn't an 18? I thought everyone had 15" legs by the time the 19 came along - of course I've been wrong before! I raced with Derek Basham by the way - those were the days!

Hi Steve! Forgot you had a 20" - I thought everyone had the 15" leg by then!

Rob Mcarthy has a second hand unused one for sale or you have to get in touch with Nick Barsch as he owns the moulds - we just make them for him - I happen to know he may have one for sale - let me know if you want his number.
