Phantom 21ft - 2003 ?

Promised you guys pics of another possible P21 project.

It's advertised as :
Phantom 21 ft - 2003
Pictures show mint condition interior incl radio
No info on bow tank nor fuel tank.

It comes (perhaps slightly underpowered) with an 200hp '96 Black Max, also in good condition. Seller claims it does 105km/h = 65mph

Is it a P21 ? Is it a '2003 ?
Any usefull comment is appreciated!
When I compare it to other P21's (eg. the one in my other thread) I feel like the front deck is a bit short.... ???

It wasn't built by Phantom Boats if it's a 2003, so it's either a Trio Mouldings built boat (legitimate) or a splash (not legitimate) or it's not a 2003.

Usefull info, but all new to me...
I'm not familiar with the recent phantom history. I guess the molds have been sold... ?

Let's say it's a genuine 2003 boat
What are the consequences of this :
1/ when it's a Trio Mouldings built boat (legitimate)
2/ when it's a splash (not legitimate)

I just know it has to have a CE-mark in order to get a new (I think > '98) boat insured...

Its a p21 for sure, look at the back of the top deck and its got the little flick up bits which is only on the (later) 21 and 23 phantoms have.

As for the foredeck looking smaller it may be because of your different colour screen creating this illusion.

Hey Loz, forgot to tell you, the last time I spoke with Steve, I asked him about the 'batch' of 23's he made for Korteland in the final months of Phantom Boats, and apparently, ..he didn't!

Go figure.

That doesn't actually make it a phantom! it just means it's from the '86> design from Steve.

A Raffshore 28 shares most of the details of Chris Dodges P28, but it don't make the Raffshore a Phantom.

It depends whether Ruffshore had made any 'improvements' in their version, and whether the running surface and other lines were still true to the original. (ie, straight or wonky) I suppose, if it were a perfect copy, then yeah, it would again be a Phantom, but in reality, I'm sure that wouldn't be the case, as I've looked along the running surface of a Ruffshore 28, and it aint straight.

Steve didn't CE mark any of his products.

So, all boats built after '98 (June I think) were either for racing of one sort or another (Ski racing & OCR) where CE is not required, or exempt for other reasons, such as incomplete boat for customer completion (like mine)

I found some recent Phantom history in this thread... http://boatmad.com/forum/showthread....d&pagenumber=1
quite usefull

I understand all building rights for P20, P21 and P23 are with UK company Trio Mouldings. Which means only this company makes genuine legitimate Phantoms, right ?

Is there any legal consequence in buying one of the dutch copycat boats,
like the Jan Korteland boat in this thread (let's assume it is one) ??

Also, as I'm going to use it only for recreational purposes I still think it's got to have a CE-mark.
Without CE-mark I can't get it insured in Belgium...

I think CE marks only came in in 1998

Yep, you're right! I meant CE-mark required if boat is younger than '98
