went out to night after fitting a new belly fuel tank and a fuel pressure gauge and a new cowl. now it is only reving out to 4000 so did try with no cowl on still only 4000rpm if i take it out of gear and rev it the revs will rev right up but doesnt under load the pressure gauge is staying at 40 so thats ok and the tank is vented so what can i try next . its a 2.4 bridgeport

Possibly the lower cranc seal, will still rev in neutral but not under load as you say is happening.

had this on an opti before. it was the in gear limit switch under the oil tank. telling ecu that it was always in neutral so would not rev past 4000 revs

if this is a 2.4 efi have you removed the filters from the injector's as some 2 stoke oil will clog them

mine did the same, you'll find it'll rev lower and lower under load each time you take it out, sometimes reving back up to give you a bit of hope.

changed the stator and now revs to 7200 no problem
