Rams

was wondering about rams similar to those on some engine hatches, doesn't have to be automatic ones, just the sort that take the weight of a hatch, like on a car boot.
anybody know rough prices/suppliers?
cheers,
Maxim

Ebay. Type in 'gas struts'. £20 to £30 seems fairly typical for a pair of newuns.

I would defo get new ones as they have a bleed valve to reduce the pressure by letting gas out. This allows you to set them to the required pushing force. Let to much out however and its game over. Second hand ones may therefore allready be to weak either because two much gas has been let out or because it has leaked out over the years. Car specific ones (i.e. ford focus boot struts) may have a set pressure (not adjustable) and so may also not be ideal for what you want, ask before you buy some.
