Rub strip

After a bit of a rough trip home from Cardiff yesterday parts of my rub strip have come loose (looks like they were previously riveted on? But everything is rusted and corroded beyond belief) not sure if this is standard practice or not? So was wondering how rub strips are fitted now a days, if riveting is the done thing, think I shall go and get some stainless ones and redo the whole thing
Thanks
Chris
