Question Seat moulding (Gav??)

I have some basic boat seats (fibreglass) and am interested in how I'd go about making moulds for these. Will they be too flexible to use as plugs? I don't want to damage the seats.
Figured Gav is the most likely source.
Already pretty confident on how to lay them up once I have the moulds, do you still need to use release wax when not gelcoating? Would I just apply resin as the first layer?
Cheers, Max

hello max,
if it was me i would use what you have as the plug! i would take eitther a mould or moulding[seat] from the back side of the seat!
depending on the surface you are puling from if its rough or crapy i would cover it in silver metal tape this is smoth and easy to pull from!
once i have aplied the tape i would give it 3 coats of wax and p.v.a it[if you have some] you dont have to! you have to wax even if you are pulling off a rough surface. then if you where making a mould gel coat x2 and 10 oz of matt, if you are just taking glass splashes of then you can just use matt and resin[make sureyou get all the air out outherwise you will have voids thats why gelling first is easyer but not nessasery].
i hope this helps if you need anymore help give me a call your dad has my number, and ill talk through things with you.
happy laminating!! tank.

He reckoned he could get away with a repair on this although there is a crack right through the front of the tray, and as there was no top pin in place the lid has lifted and moved backwards.
Just out of interest how much is it for a new tray?
Max

The backs of the seats are nice and smooth, so i'll apply wax, then the matt and resin to make a glass splash. Then if the first one goes ok I'll go ahead and make a mould

Cheers, spoke to him about it tonight and he said just a repair on this one would do, didn't use the new lid he bought off you in the end so would need to change fixings anyway.
Got given a big bag of matt today so will do seats straight after his tray
