single counter rotating gearbox install

i have a150 black max on a rib which has turned out to be a counter rotating job,,

any advise on how to reverse the cable direction on control box can it be done, new style side mount, pic attached,
all i can see is u have to have a top mount control box, really do not want to do this and have unwanted holes in my new console,

Check to be certain but I think if you run a counter rotating gearbox backwards it won't last.

I'd find a r/h rotation gearbox and change it. Much better prop options, and the l/h gearbox won't like running in 'reverse' constantly

This is the cheapest option. Dave at steel developments has a range of l/h props from solas and mercury

Sorry must of written it wrong

It's running a left hand prop as it should , but how do I get this control box to push the cable backwards when leaver is pushed forward?
Forward selection on engine makes the slide go backwards not forward as in normal rotation, so at present it runs fine with control box if used back wards ie reverse is forward, do not want to fits a top mount unit

???? I really want to ask if it's defo a lefty box. if the control box is mounted the right way up it should not matter. Is it a genuine Mercury control box?

I have been told so, the engine has allways been on the rib and prop has not been changed the control box has been swapped for a new version and now it's all to pot back to front but I can not see how it can be changed in the control box,

How ever I am going to have a look at the box lunch time to verify, apparently the bearing is closer to the front on left handed units,
Is there any other way of telling ?

Unfortunately the old control box has been binned I presume it could travel internally in the opposite direction

I would have thought left and right boxes are interchangeable and Mercury controls only work one way

To make the cable pull when pushed fwd, mount the cable at the top of the lever.and to make it push mount the cable at the bottom below the pivot point.not sure it merc control boxes have that option tho.

wrong, for some bizzar reason on a counter rotating box you put the gear box in the conventional reverse position (aft on the slider) and then it turns the propshaft anticlockwise, which pushes you forward, when you have a left handed prop on.

In regard to the problem, you need a reversed control box, or mount it on the other side of the instrument binnacle with the cable running in from the front, your key will be on the front though which will be a a pain in the ass.

Right, some of the mercury boxes have a push to forward gear like the Yamaha engines, you may have one of them. Mercury gear boxes are pull for forward. This means that you will have to buy a diffent control box.

Ok, obviously was well off the mark. I have swapped evinrude boxes from left to right without changing anything. Assumption is the mother of all fook ups as they say.
I shall hush on this haha.
