Ski Pole for R21C

Does anyone have any pictures of a ski pole set of for a R21C?

I can't see a(n easy) way of getting a ski pole to work as the fuel tank takes up most of the space under/behind the back seat...

Any ideas would be appreciated, my friend is a top notch fabricator so he can knock something up, just a bit stumped regards the design...

Cheers in advance for any replies,

Andy

Make a brace across the top of the tank from one side to the other, glass a fixing point to the bottom (or floor if it goes that far back) each side of the tank. I'd make the brace 'bolt down' so you can remove it to get to the tank.

Have a fitting made in the middle of that so you can remove the pole, such as a cup for the base of the pole to sit in, with a pin through the middle.

Drill a hole in the deck behind the rear seat, reinforce it, maybe bracing it to the transom to stop flex? (not sure if thats needed) and then slide the pole in through that to the fitting below

I may be totally wrong but that's how i'd do it, and it's the best suggestion so far!

Hi Andy

On ours, there is a wooden "bench" that sits over the forward half of the tank under the bathing platform. Our ski pole mount is attached to this. Small pic attached. Top of pic is towards bow. You can just make out the wooden "bench" and ski pole mount.

James, your idea sounds like it would do the job, I'm not sure i want to fix anything to the fuel tank though... Will be something to look into though...

Docta, do you have a few more pictures of that set up? It looks like a good solution!

Does it bend/flex at all when towing? Will mostly be just towing a biscuit but we normally get 2/3 people on it!

Cheers to the both of you!

Andy

I'll see if I can get some at the weekend for you. No bending or flexing that we are aware of even when trying to heave me out of the water on my skis (and im a 15st lump!)

Cheers

Al

i didn't mean attach it to the fuel tank ya numpty!! I meant do what docta has shown, build a bridge over the top of it attached to the bottom (of the boat) or the floor if it goes that far back. Basically exactly what docta has!

First chance I had to post on this thread and now I can't post any pictures!

My ski pole goes through the deck in the same place, the end sits in a stainless 'cup' above the fuel tank and it is through bolted. The cup is bolted to a curved stainless plate, the ends of which are double bolted through the deck and backed with large stainless plates. The pole is then braced (triangulated?) to the flat panels where a sun pad would normally hinge just ahead of the transom with again large stainless backing plates. Finally a length of studding goes through the both braces and the pole making everything nice and rigid.

Hope this helps.

See you still read these hallowed pages

If you end up at L.E. one day before I get back let me know if the pontoon is back in the water yet. Got this urge to go for a run when I get back to civilization.

Just need to get the fuel tank ordered up thou.............................
