Stainless Steel prop for my sea ray

Hi there all
looking to change my ali prop for a stainless one but everybody and there mate has got an opinion on which one i need !

my boat is a 1990 sea ray 160 bowrider,
3.0ltr 130hp mercruiser alpha one leg.
80ltr fuel tank in the middle of the boat.

it usally has two adults and one child on board, and is used in the solent.

looking for all round improvment, not just increased top end.
( i know its not a fast boat )

i dont pull toy's !

its clear to me that there are people on here who truly understand the dark arts of proppellers,
so can you help?
cheers andy

It would probably help to know the pitch of your current propeller, what revs you get with it, and what kind of speed. From there the people who know can work out if it would be worth changing pitch or not. I believe that the same pitch prop in stainless would still give a small all round increase in performance, the bravo 1 props are known to be good. I'm definately no expert though, others on here will be able to give a much more specific answer with the above info

Best of luck!

James

At the moment it’s got a 19p on it
#48 832830A45 19P

As for gear ratio I haven’t got a clue! As far as I know the outdrive is as it was from new if that helps.

The boat is new to me and at the moment being refitted so I cant test it, but the previous owner did say it was revving to 4600/4800 rpm, this is my first inboard boat so I don’t know if that’s right or not. I’ve always had outboards!

hi 1up

i thought that high 5 props were more for pulling skiers and toys?

and off topic a bit,
i see you have a reiver with a 90hp on the back!
bet that gets a bit hairy. i had one with a mariner 60, it would chine walk like crazzzy in the slightest swell.
was a fast little boat though

cant say i have ever had any handling issues, been out in quite rough conditions too.
It just sits on the pad and feels really stable

They were rated to 120hp too, so i fancy putting a 115 optimax on it if i can find one at the right price

I've got a 18' Cuddy with the same engine/drive unit, although a strong engine its not an engine to rev to high it gets a bit harsh sounding.I stipped my Alfa a while ago and I think you should be able to take the top cover of the gearbox and the ration is normally stamped on the gears.I used a standard 19P Alloy Mercury prop and it pulled Skiers and sensible revs I did try a 19P Lazer 2 but I think the hub was slipping so went back to the original but I would think the same pitch Stainless would be an improvement so they say
