Stand-Off Bracket/Lifter

Hi, my Dad's recently bought a new boat for next season (See profile Pic), it's believed to be a 22ft Backdraft with Merc XR2 200hp. We've heard various opinions on whether to use a Stand-off bracket or a lifter on the motor.... any help on which would be better and why would be much appreciated...
Cheers

A lifter is used by many of the class III teams, I assume you're going to race it, so I would say get the lifter, I havn't run that particular boat, so can't say if it would benefit from a bracket as well to set the engine back further. A lifter will gain you top end speed by reducing the drag on the gearbox, but lift it too high and risk losing water pressure and blowing the engine up!

We have found the best lifter of "jack plate" is the Stainless Marine Gorilla 1 which has been superseded by the Gorilla 2 - the new generation one should be fine for your boat.

Yeah we are going to race the boat, hopefully in the f200 class. We heard that the gorilla lifters are the best in terms of strength etc. I'll check out that website. Cheers, Maxim

Thats my old Bakdraft. Ex Pink Beaver and DST. Raced by spinksy and sperlin. The 7" setback from a stainless marine lifter should be just about right, but you can experiment by inserting bits of plywood, suitably protected with resin, between the engine and lifter till you get it right.

They also do a 5" if you want more options, but if 7" is about right it will need less packing to make the adjustments .....
