starter motor probs...new one?

hi all i know its not the biggest buy if i do need a new one but hate to waste mine and money if it can be fixed.
had problems with my starter motor so took it apart, found the bushes were rusted and stuck, managed to free up 3 out of the 4 and put it back together. it chucks out (looks like its all the way) and it spins but when bolted on it does not engage the fly wheel, sounds like its chuking out and spinning??????? tried another starter and that started the engine fine???
anyone know whats up? is it to do with the damaged bush? can i buy the bush housing anywhere?
cheers.

I've witnessed people having problems with Mercury starters. The problem was they were not contacting the block with the torque arm casted on the rear of the starter, if this is not contacting and not allowing the torque to be contained to that arm the starter will flex become misaligned ( because its mounted in rubber ) and make one prematurely fail..

Dunno about other brands but that can be the issue with the Mercurys...

Good luck,
Jay
