Starting Mercruiser on the floor
Hi,
I need to start a mercruiser 260, on the floor. it has the thunderbolt ignition and I'm not sure where to wire the live, to the ignition.
Is there an easy answer to this, ie, one live direct to the coil + ?
Thanks
Pete

Yeh, 12v+ to the coil, or any purple wire will do the job.

Does this sound about right?
1, Battery lead from battery Negative to block.
2, Wire from battery negative to ground wire eyelet on thunderbolt box.
3, Battery lead from battery positive, to starter.
4, Wire from battery positive to coil positive.
5, Wire from battery positive, touched on solenoid positive, to start.

nope, that's connected to the engine block, that'll get it's power from your battery leads.

That's great, thanks. Just one more question: I am presuming this will also bypass the Interrupter Switch on the gear shift plate. As I took this off for a member on here but he never got back to me, so it's not wired up.

I just found this, if it's any good to anyone. Not a great image but it prints ok on A4. I've got the larger (black box) thunderbolt but I'll see if the wiring is the same.

Worth remembering that thunderbolt iv is really only 1 step removed from old fashioned points ignition - in terms of the wiring etc.

All worked ok, as below. Engine sold.
1, Battery lead from battery Negative to block.
2, Battery lead from battery positive, to starter.
3, Wire from battery positive to coil positive.
4, Wire from battery positive, touched on solenoid positive, to start.
