strange request for advice

ime making up an electric winch fixed to the back wall of my garage to enable me to pull my boat up the driveway which has a slight incline (1ft in 30ft) and into the garage..my boat is a marshan 19 on a regular trailer and my motor is an XR2 so what roughly would the wieght be of my rig be as i need to determine what wire rope i need

If you dont mind me saying would it not be better to bolt thewinch to the floor, assuming you have concrete floors? Sorry cant help with the weight question

Carl..ime making the winch wirerless remote control so i can un-hitch from car and winch the sucker straight in from road mate...ive just biult a 4 car garage so kinda ruined my turning circle which did enable me to drive straight in with boat... the missus wont let me keep it at the front of house even thou i have loads of room

I think your getting a little carried away with the whole weight of the boat thing here!
Your planning on pulling it up the drive not lifting it aren’t you!
Put it this way, i bet you can pull it along on your own but you'll never lift it.
Hold the boat on your driveway with a ratchet strap and a spring gauge, see what the weight is.
Then tighten the strap until the boat starts to move, double that weight and you'll be fine.
Plenty on ebay for under £100 3000lb=1360kg

i assumed the boat was going in the garage? Hence bolting the winch to the floor suggestion so you dont pull your brick work out.

I have same problem, i keep the boat at the side of the house, i can drive in 1 side of the drive and out the other but the boat wont quite be straight enough to just reverse back as road not wide enough my drive is 53' from front fence to house and about 70' wide, its wide enough but not quite deep enough to sweep round and be straight, so i reverse in from the road, but now i might take up your idea or the answer maybe is get a smaller boat or bigger house lol.

Make sure you go for more than the weight of the boat in breaking strain, preferably double. Also bear in mind that the cheap electric winches you get are incredibly slow.

Laying in bed last night thinking about making some sort of Trailer Dolly, I came up with this idea of using one of these, its got the engine, drive and wheels. Or just fit a tow ball to it. Plenty cheap enough on ebay

I used to move mine around with a 100cc auto quad that i fab'd a tow bar up for it, ring 18 with a 225 promax on, so similar weight to what youve got id imagine, seemd to handle what i did with it fine, probobly a steeper gradient to yours and it wasnt tarmac'd. if you dont need you grass cutting, quads are much more fun when your board too. i used an apache, think you can get these for around £150 ish on ebay currently, so not, if at all more that a winch/grass mower and with electic start a bit easier and more reliable
