top stake pistons

Hi Guys ,a M8 off mine asked for a quote from Diamond marine for some pistons for his merc 260 offshore ,they came back with a reply about side stake pin pistons saying they can suppy it for him he he wants, my question is ,are these the proper pistons originally in that engine ?
He also has been offered some other pistons which make is Eagle from Panama, any idea bout them too ? many thx .

The original pistons were side pinned but the pins can come out and trash your engine. The later pistons were top pinned.

Hi roofer yes that what he explains to me too bout the pin thing which i did know ,but then its ok if this M8 off mine just decided to buy the stake piston as its the proper one correct for the 260 ? thx

You can use the side pinned pistons but you run the risk of the pins coming out, I know lots of people who use the side pinned pistons and none have lost the pins .If you turn your engine more than 7500rpm I reckon top pinned is the way to go.

Hi again,ok very clear i`le tell him its just that he just needs 1 piston changing ,so its up to him bout changing all 6 for top pinned ones,but i`le tell him bout the revs too atleast he can decide upon that.many thx .

hi, i've got some 2nd hand 260 efi pistons. which side and which conrod have you got [heavy or light weight]...
