Hi Just wondering if anybody has any tips for stopping the brakes binding on on my trailer after It has been in the sea before I take them off and throw them away?!

The shelf in the back of the garage is the ideal place to leave them.

I replaced mine with brakeless hubs from Meredith & Eyre, must've launched and recovered 50 times this summer with no issues at all

I make sure the adjuster is set just right on each hub and slacken them off just a bit if in doubt.

Plus I make sure the springs on the brake shoes are well greased (inside and out) and I have spare sets of springs to fit if they get rusty and if I reverse when I park the trailer I make sure give it a short pull forward before unhitching. Seems to work for me.

Taking them off is all very well, but if you have a serious accident, & the rig should be braked you are in big trouble. Proper maintenance is the answer as with the hub bearings.

I'll get my coat . . .

My central brake rod is M10 stainless studding. I put a eye nut on the end of this and attached two very heavy duty bungee straps from there to chassis cross members. The straps tension the brake rod and just help the small springs inside the drum to return the shoes.

I have also used ZX1 fully synthetic grease in the bearings for some years.

May be this is interesting for some of you:
Good feedback in France for the new immersible range of trailers.
Disc brakes
Waterproof lights
Unbrakes axles

The exemple here is a summerssible Sun Way Trailer combinated with Mecanorem Red Rollers, very easy to launch, and pull up.

The American Shorelander trailers have disc brakes & their Ez-Loader's have oil bath hubs, why don't the British trailer manufacturers do this?

I have fitted LED submersible lights to two of my trailers, saves a lot of hassle (& dirty hands) & they are nice & bright.

Both of my yank trailers work really well. Never had any problems, apart from they are not legal in the uk.
