Yes they are. They have lots more small grooves in. It's worth keeping a smaller set of wheels with winter tyres on and swap them over this time of year.

I'm sure it's a legal requirement to have them in germany?? I've driven a few cars with them on over there, and much better.

What bm is it? I've got a couple of sets of wheels floating around here... If not, just get some second hand rims and get the tyres fitted to those. Will be lots cheaper.

I would defo have a look on pikeBay. BMW now how to steal from people! You will save a fortune, and they will only be on there for a few months. You can always get new wheel trims from BMW to make them look better. It's also worth reducing the wheel size and increasing the profile of the tyres.

Good luck in your search! Lol

just a wee update, got the winter tyres & wheels on 16th Dec just before our VERY heavy snow.............a GREAT job ............even worked well in 6" + of snow...could go where front wheel drives could not......

did cost a lot more ££££'s as I could only get alloys & tyres but.....sure its only money.

thanks for ur replies & Happy New Year to all

safe & fast boating in 2011.

You must have been the only BMW making forward progress!

I saw so many shiny beemers holding up queues of traffic round here that it stopped being funny after a while. Actually that's not true. It was still funny.

ur correct......for a week, I was the only one in any german rear wheel drive car that was in use from our development.........and on one day when I was down in town for 2 hours mid-morning I only saw 2 others BMW ( no the "better" roads ) & no Mercs ( car that is !!! )....all normally 2 a penny. My wifes car did not leave the garage for 2 weeks & me mates Merc did not leave the garage for 3 weeks....he lives in the "west" which was VERY bad.

and, more snow on its way for us late 2morrow & Sat.........

"my weather guru" is giving: Jan, Feb & April all to be below average temps, and Jan & March below average rainfall with Feb & April rainfall above average.

but as some say......sure you cant forecast beyond 5 days............ if at all

Think its back to getting ready for the "boating season"........

I love my BMW, but in snow/mud it turns itself into a useless ornament. Still its not all bad, I am getting lots of work here from folk that have busted their auto box & or 4x4 box in the snow!!

make sure you are insured, some companies class it as a modification and if you havent informed them you are not covered.

I have to agree with you regards the bmws and mercs in the snow. My 7 series was no good whatsoever. My dads merc was just as pants! Fortunately I have some good tires on my discovery, but I'm not sure if they are classed as winter tires! hehehe
